PANTHERS POUNCE EAGLES!!!
Trinity York
March 7, 1998
Even though the Eagles brought in the tip, Clarksville took an early lead. The Panthers caused havoc from the three-point line. Steven Willis started the trend with one shot from behind the line, and Casey Fisher out-did him with nine points from way out. However, the main reason for Clarksville's lead was Caleb Hilton's great job of worrying the gaurds. He carried four steals in the first quarter. On the other end of the court Derek Wells used a sweet spin move for a two point shot. The score at the end of the first was 25-11.
In the second half, Caleb continued his steals and Casey managed another three-pointer. However, Kyle Fowlkes for Vilonia made a nice jumper from the top of the lane, and his team member Dustin Worlow, took an inside pass and an under-the-goal shot for two. At the half-time Vilonia carried seven team fouls and Clarksville carried four. The half-time score: 37-19 Clarksville in the lead.
Michael Pellman, big man on the Panthers, opened up the third quarter with a SLAM DUNK!! Vilonia's #3, Adam Goyne, dribbled right through the middle of the lane for two. Also, Wells put in two free-throws. Steven Willis lead Clarksville in the third with four three-pointers. The score going into the final quarter was 56-37: still Panthers.
The final quarter only brought the Panthers farther ahead. Even with free-throws from Clint Cook, Jonathan McNespey, and Jeremy Simon on the Eagles side, Clarksville only fed their lead. With Erik Dickerson's and Nick Kremer's three pointers, Clarksville kept the lead. With two minutes left in the ball game the fans for Clarksvill began to chant "PINE BLUFF!!, PINE BLUFF!!!" , and the Panthers will be going to the finals of the state tournement in Pine Bluff.
