CARDINALS SCALP MOHAWKS!!!
Trinity York
March 4, 1998
Even though the tip went to Piggott, they were ambushed early on in the game. The first point of the game went to Angie Beck of Piggott, but Farmington took over the first quarter after that. Melissa Spears hit two threes for the Cardinals, and Kayia Madenell added two from the outside. The score at the end of the quarter was 14-8; Farmington.
The second quarter was rather slow, but it allowed the Mohawks to catch up. Jessica Carter from Farmington made a spectacular pass inside to Ashley Lawrence for two. However, Rebecca Whittley of Piggott had to work a little harder for her points, bullying her way into the paint. At the end of the quarter the Mohawks made a move that may have hurt more than helped them, they held the ball for over a minute to let the clock run down. Then with ten seconds left they moved in for a two pointer.
Half-time score: 19-17; Cardinals.
Coming into the second half the Mohawks seemed to have lost their motivation, and the Cardinals took advantage of that. Kayia dropped in two free-throw shots, and ran a coast to coast, grabbing the rebound and then carrying it for a lay-up, also Jessica Carter put up a lucky shot as she was threatening to fall. On the other end of the court, Heather Haley put up a jumper from the top of the lane. The score at the end was 39-24, still Farmington.
As the Mohawks tired, the onslaught of points from Farmington continued with a jumper from Kayia, two free-throws from Spears, and a three and a long two from Ashley Lawrence. Piggott tried to fight back with a free-throw from Kristi Sutfin, and a three from Crystal Calhoun. However, it was not enough to battle off the Cardinals. The final score was 56-Farmington; 38- Piggott.
Brad Blew, Coach of the Cardinals!!!
Amy Tadel
Coach Blew, of the Cardinals had this to say about the game:
"We came out at the beginning of the game acting like we didn't care if we won. At half-time, I told them I didn't care how they played; I just wanted them to win. I also told them to start working on the new plays we had learned. It seemed to work in the second half. We will probably work on our rebounding and our three throws. We did well getting back in the game and getting the shots we needed."
