Computers and Internet Access at Home
1997 and 2000
303 students in grades 8-12 were surveyed during registration week, August 7-11, 2000. The survey results were compared with a similar survey conducted during the 1997- 1998 school year.
While access to computers at home has increased significantly during the three years (from 41% to 63%), and internet access at home has increased even more (42% to 70%), still fewer than half of Drew Central students have access tot he internet outside of school. (Only 45% have access to the internet at home.
There is a small disparity within Race toward computers at home (50% of White to 44% of Blacks), but there is s significant gap in internet access (74% of Whites to 57% of Blacks).
More Females have computers and internet access at home than do their Male counterparts. 69% of females have a computer and 78% of them have internet access, while 56% of Males have a computer and 61% have internet access at home.
