Kay Grant, English and Social Studies Teacher
Drew Central High School

Nominators' Comments

"When the word integrity is mentioned at Drew Central, the name Kay Grant immediately comes to mind. Not only does Mrs. Grant teach geography, she lives it. Her travels around the globe are always tied to the classroom. The students learn about other cultures through the eyes of a participant, not a tourist. English is her other realm. Gently Mrs. Grant nudges her students to believe in their opinions, trust themselves, and set goals for their future. Several years ago, Mrs. Grant spoke at a National Honors Society induction ceremony, warning the students to not "dumb down." From that speech came the grant which funded the Project 3-D Student Recognition Program on the secondary level. Now she motivates students through that program with t-shirts, days out of school, and the coveted field trips. Kay also spends her time coaching Quiz Bowl, helping with the County Spelling Bee, and chaperoning honors trips. It is evident by her demeanor and her expertise that she is where she needs to be–in the classroom."
